I have been running errands, hemming this and that, painting things, ordering invites, etc. We just have so many things going on at once that it’s hard and sometimes overwhelming. My beautiful sister in law is getting married this weekend, so that has been the most important thing we have been getting together. I know she has found her perfect mate and they will have a beautiful marriage together. I can’t be happier for them both. On top of that, Isabella starts mother’s day out next week, which I know she is going to love and immediately after that we have her third Birthday on the 19th, but we are celebrating on the 18th. Yes, her third Birthday! So, invitations and decorations are ordered and favors are near completion. Everything today was pretty much wrapped up on my end on the wedding side, so when Corey got an appointment near my parents, we loaded up in the car, early this afternoon and headed out to my little magical get away. Home….

I was blessed to grow up on a beautiful plantation with beloved Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins literally across the field. I will always be a country, well really a Southern girl, at heart even though I live in the middle of the city. I still prefer being barefoot and it isn’t a big deal when I leave the door to the house wide open! But, home has changed tremendously since my play time days. Where the pool once was there is now a beautiful organic garden that produces year round, a barn that was once full of animals, now holds my father’s treasures, and a serene lake stretching over several acres now adorns the back yard stretching into the front. I am sitting in my dad’s leather chair in the sun room watching the wind blow the moss in the huge oak tree outside the window and the water ripple across the lake. It looks more like scene in a movie than the place I grew up.

When Corey dropped us off my parents actually weren’t here yet, so we preceded to grabbing two fishing pole’s and diced ham for bait. We caught 6 good size brim. One we called a piranha because it literally kept trying to nip at our fingers and our favorite had a blue belly. Sweet side note, when we catch a fish Izzy insists on feeding them a treat, rather it be ham or fish food, it is the sweetest thing. Corey made it back pretty quickly, so we went walking around and behind the garden we found the perfect hills for rolling down. Isabella was having a blast and when she invited me to join her, how could I resist. Isabella ran around in the field and as we were sitting there I had flashbacks to when our horses would run in the field where we were, and our lambs off to the right. The only thing missing for me was a horse. I can’t wait for the day Izzy and I can just get on one and ride all day. That I miss the most.

This is the first day in weeks that we actually got to play and spend good quality time together and I feel whole again. Sometimes life gets so busy and you say to yourself if I could just get this done, or just get that done, but what you really need is time with your family and time with the Lord. I am thankful for this day that my dear friend helped me in my distress by helping me complete my odd jobs, and thankful for this serene place that I can come to and that I still call home.

Tea of the day: Silver Needle Reserve, 2010 crop, by Red Blossom Tea Company, it’s a white tea and the leaves feel fuzzy to touch, but it is light and refreshing….Just right for this afternoon.

Just recently I learned actually who Earl Grey was, and it can be summed up to NUT CASE! He was obnoxious to his wife and the living conditions which were arranged were unthinkable. Yet, he got his name on this beautiful tea. I have to say though, it often reminds of Fruit Loops cereal, which wouldn’t be far off for describing him……hmmmmm……something silly to ponder for the day.

This book was an easy read book that took me way to long to finish. I enjoyed this author’s first book of his series. It felt Harry Potteresque without all magic. The “potentials” as they called the kids in the book were scoped out and brought to a special school. I really got interested early in the book because the main character Max and his dad visited the Chicago Art Institute and were looking and all of these Old Master paintings and that is really were the adventure begins. (Chicago and fine art are both dear to me so of course I was intrigued to see where this was going to take me!) Max finds a secret room with a tapestry and sees a vision from it that will help him figure out his place later in the book. It was brilliant! The author continued to use the art throughout the book so the kids reading it may interested in finding more about a Rembrandt painting . I love how authors are putting history in books and making it fun. I am going to veer off here for just a second, but another but I have read and yet to blog about is The Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan. I love this guy! This was the first book in his second series and it was about the Egyptians this time, and as expected in the beginning he explains how our God is the true God so there isn’t any confusion for a young reader, yet they get to learn so much about the Egyptian culture. Did you know that they still record Moses as being the only human whose God is more powerful that all of their gods? I was fascinated by that in more than one way. I love the fact that they recognize that He is all powerful, but why bother with your idols when you know there is something better out there?

Anyway, back to Max. He is a good kid, well mannered, who loves his dad. When he arrives at Rowan Academy he is immediately recognized by his peers and educators that he has something special to offer. They find out that potentials are being kidnapped by another source, which is an evil guy that is actually trapped in a painting. Max has his struggles, with girls, pride and going through too much for a young boy but he overcomes and takes charge. There are some fun characters in the book, Mum and Bob who are the cooks that really are an old hag that used to eat people and Bob an old ogre, both reformed and forgiven and working for the good side now as the cooks at Rowan. I thought it was funny that Mum had to smell you for the first time so that way she knew you were off limits to be eaten! David, another character, is Max’s roommate. He seems weak but you can tell he has major intellect and power inside of him. I expect to see more of him in the next book. Each kid is given responsibility of taking care of a charge, special animal. Max ends up with a Lymrill that has a short fuse sometimes but he reminds me of Max so I feel they were a good fit. They also had animals around the academy that could of course talk and were full of wit and direction. Oh, and I can’t leave out how cool the kids dorm rooms can be! They are all different and are made from the kids bunking together. Really cleaver.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. This is something I could read with Izzy when she is age appropriate. I feel like the author was just making his other character known and didn’t go too deep into getting to know the rest which was sometimes confusing. I expect as you read the series though, you will get to know them better. I will continue to read this series, but I have promised to read, Her Mother’s Hope, by Francine Rivers to www.KendraJustice.com. The second book to that series is about to be released so we are getting ready for that AND the new Rick Riordan book being released this September. It’s a continuation to Percy Jackson so I have high expectations already. Keep reading peps, it keeps your brain from falling asleep. Just make sure you are reading the right things ;)

How many times have I heard this statement? All my life I am quite sure of it, as well as most of you I assume. A statement…cute but, never given much more thought than just an overused, cliche quote if you will. It was that for me until last night. Driving home we were looking at the beautiful golden moon just appearing over the trees. It was stunning. Isabella was just as in awe and said, “Oh wow Mama.” I turned and smiled at her and then after a short pause she said , “Let’s go catch it!” My heart melted and I looked at Corey and I know he felt the same. If I could give you the moon darling I would, I thought. It was so sweet I continued pondering over our little special scenario and it made me think of God. If I can love this little being so much and want to do all I can for her, how much more does He love us as His children and wants to do for us! I never understood this until I was a Mom, and I am thankful God made me aware of this new level of love, even though His is so much more it surpasses all understanding. Thank you Lord for my little precious gift, I feel like you have given me the moon.

Tea of the day: Black currant again! Still good!

I just finished priming a huge blank canvas that will ultimately be a painting for my daughters Birthday. There is something about a blank canvas that is soothing to me. Yes, it is blank now, but there is no boundaries on where you could go with it. I love it. This one already has a purpose though, and as I am priming it, I can visualize the whimsical colors and swirls, and the tag line, “Adventure is out there.” It is inspired by the Disney movie UP. Like in the movie, so many people get stuck in routines, small town mentalities, as if there is nothing else out there but the little square they live in. Life takes over and dreams are often given up on and the thought of that breaks my heart. I lived in that bubble for awhile, not really realizing that there is a beautiful world God has created for us to explore. I have always had a desire to go here or there and see and learn more! For awhile, it was lost but slowly it is growing stronger and stronger, mainly because of my daughter Isabella. I want her to know Adventure really is out there. I know it sounds cliche but I want her to be able to do and go where she wants. So, I am painting the replica of the Ellie’s painting on UP that sits on their mantle. It will hang on the side of her bed and hopefully while she is playing, she will look up and have a moment and realize her life is a blank canvas and with God, she can work in all the beautiful colors into her own adventure. Never forget kids…Adventure really is out there!

I am about to attempt to cook a meal….For those who don’t know me, I don’t cook. I don’t like to cook. It leaves me stressed. So thank you Jesus, that I live with a culinary genius who comes home and literally makes a masterpiece almost every night, seriously, goes all out. So when I am asked to cook, ugh……….Corey doesn’t really understand. I try to explain it like this: What if I told you you had to paint tonight. So go find a painting to paint, go buy the materials and execute so everyone will enjoy it. He would like at me like and say, “Yeah right!” That’s what I feel like saying, but since I am the “manager” of the household and I do strive to be a Proverbs 31 woman, I guess I have to give this a shot. So on the menu tonight, Izzy and I have chosen a Spaghetti Pie. I will be honest……it’s out of a Sesame Street cookbook. I am starting small I know, but do you know the repercussions I could face if I cannot pull this off from all the cooking masterminds that surround me literally on a daily basis? Pray for me. It is about to begin! Tea for the day was an old friend…Black Currant. Yummy!

By the way: I am finishing a book that has taken me far to long to read, but should be blogging on it soon. Keep reading peps!

I am sitting in my newly renovated art room, on my chaise lounge, looking at my new cabinets and listening to the rain outside. It’s comforting knowing that all of my art supplies finally have a place to call their own. My antique wardrobe sits next to me, and just the fact that it is a true wardrobe takes me instantly to Narnia and I am satisfied. It is a quiet little room where I can read, spend time with the Lord, paint and write. I have such a feeling of contentment when I am in here that I almost can’t contain myself! I know that statement contridicts itself, but those who know me understand. It’s so hard to find a quiet nook in the crazy busy life that I feel so blessed to have a room, just for me! I am expecting God to gift me with words to write and pictures to paint. I already have 2 paintings in mind and I was able to do some writing again yesterday, so I know I am off to the right start. I have been discouraged for a while, uninspired by my surroundings, but God is opening my eyes to little things that is inspiring bigger things. More to come…from my quiet inspiring nook…..tea of the day….Fleur de Geisha….compliments of Kendra…(read her blog by the way)….Green tea infused with cherry blossoms, as Kiki described it, Kathryn in a cup, and I totally agree.

So, I was complaining that it had been a whole week, A WHOLE week since I have been able to get any time to read. THEN Kiki, www.kendrajustice.com, points out that I have not updated my blog since February! Am I really that busy? I have completed a couple of new books. One being The Kane Chronicles, more to follow later! What I really wanted to post about today was my beautiful!two year old has stolen my heart once again. We recently acquired my mother’s old wardrobe that she used from infant until she left to go to college. I can’t look at it enough, it’s wonderful. Anyway, we moved it in while Isabella was sleeping so when she woke up the next morning she was equally impressed. She proceeds getting into the wardrobe and invites me and Wrigs, our dog, to join her! I asked, “Oh Izzy, are you bringing me to Narnia?!” She looked at me like I was crazy but we did end up playing in there for quite some time. Check that off of my list of : To Do One Day! On to the evening and we ask her what she wants for dinner, she screams, “SUSHI!” Yes, you read that correctly. My two year old requested sushi! We jump in the car and off we go and I ask her what she wants to listen to? To that she replied, “Kiss Botti…uhhhh…..Joush Goban..ABC’s? And that is Josh Groban and Chris Botti for those who don’t know! We listened to one of each. And it get’s better. After dinner she wanted to go look at the books in the bookstore. It doesn’t get much better than that. I was so proud! She is her mama’s girl! And on a side note, I am drinking my morning green tea and she is having her peach tea with me. How cool is that?

I was finally able to go and see the movie The Lightning Thief with my friend Kendra and I was so disappointed and I know she was too!. I just can’t understand why they would take an awesome storyline and change so much. The thing that bothered me the most was the loss of innocence from the book to the movie that I had found so charming in reading it. I know it’s Hollywood but I can’t understand why they feel like that have to put so many sexual innuendo’s in a kids movie? For example, the Lotus Hotel in the book was just a cool enchanted place where they played video games, but in the movie they had women in lingerie hanging all over them!! It was just to much for me sitting there thinking about all the young impressionable minds around me.

On another note I thought they did a great job on the casting. The guy who played Percy was the same brazen spunky teenager I had pictured in the book. Grover was definitely the funniest. A little over confident than the book character, but still good. And why didn’t they dye Annabeth’s hair BLONDE and where was Clarisse?? It was a lot of the little things that just kept adding up unfortunately.

Now after saying all that, I honestly don’t think I would be so harsh on this movie if I didn’t know the original story, but the problem is I do. I was really excited about it because it had potential but it ended up falling short. Hopefully they will do the other movies but stick to the Riordan’s original story. Still had a good time just going to see it. Good company and good conversation is always fun.
